Nokia Launches 2nd Flagship Cell Phone Store In New York

On September 9th Nokia will open its second US Flagship Store in New York's exclusive Fifth Avenue shopping district at 5 East 57th Street. Nokia's first Flagship Store was opened in Hong Kong last July.

Featuring the widest selection of Nokia devices available, Nokia Flagship Stores feature an interactive, high-energy retail environment dedicated to educating customers and pairing them with the perfect wireless device.

The New York location is Nokia's fifth global Flagship Store, following successful launches in Moscow, Chicago, Hong Kong and Helsinki.

Mobile ESPN to Broadcast Live College Football Games

Mobile ESPN will broadcast 25 live college football games month in real-time on their mobile phones.

ESPN's mobile phone service said it'll be the first to offer a lineup of live college football games streamed to mobile phones. The games, provided through the ESPN and ESPN2 TV sports channels, will be available to Mobile ESPN customers who subscribe to the service’s $24.99 Total Sports Package at no extra charge. The first in that series will be the Monday’s game between Florida State and Miami.

Mobile ESPN is the first and only wireless service to offer a comprehensive line-up of live college football games, and will kick it off with ESPN Full Circle: Florida State vs. Miami, on Monday, September 4.


 

Samsung to Demonstrate 4G Mobile Technology

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced its plan to demonstrate 4th Generation (4G) mobile technology at the annual Samsung 4G Forum in Jeju Island, Korea for the first time in the world.

Demonstration will take place at the specially designed bus in mobile circumstances reaching 100 Mbps data transmission as well as at the display area inside forum venue to show speeds of 1Gbps of data transmission.

The bus demonstration will give participants a first-hand experience of this latest technology. A demonstration bus will be moving at speeds of 60 km/h to show multi-cell Handover* with data speed of 100Mbps.

A live broadcast of the Forum, VOD, and internet access will be shown simultaneously in a demonstration bus allowing delegates to experience the stability and speed of 4G connectivity of 100Mbps data speed.

McAfee Warns of SMiShing (Cell Phone) Virus Attacks

Cell phone users should watch out for text messages containing a Web site link which, when visited, could download a Trojan horse, security experts have warned.

In a blog posting last week, McAfee dubbed the new development "SMiShing," referring to a phishing attack sent via SMS (Short Message Service).

Some cell phone users have started receiving an SMS that reads: "We're confirming you've signed up for our dating service. You will be charged $2/day unless you cancel your order," David Rayhawk wrote in the McAfee Avert Labs blog.



 

Sprint & Novatel First EV-DO Revision A Broadband Card

Sprint and Novatel Wireless, Inc. today announced commercial availability of the country's first EV-DO Revision A-capable device - the Novatel Wireless S720 Sprint Mobile Broadband Card. This milestone follows Sprint's recent announcement that it will begin upgrading the Sprint Power Vision(SM) Network -- the nation's largest wireless broadband network currently covering more than 153 million people - to the faster EV-DO Revision A this year.

Designed for operation with compatible laptops as well as the soon-to-be-available Linksys Wireless G-Router for Mobile Broadband, the Merlin S720 will allow customers to connect to the Sprint Power Vision Network and remotely access audio, video and data applications at DSL-like speeds. The card operates on the current Sprint Power Vision Network and will support faster average download and upload speeds (450 -850 kbps and 300 - 400 kbps, respectively) of Sprint's upgraded network when it becomes available.

Cingular Launches the Samsung ZX20

Cingular has launched its second HSDPA capable handset, the Samsung ZX20.  The ZX20 is an an update to the ZX10, adding HSDPA and Bluetooth. HSDPA is a 3G data transmission technology that speeds by UMTS and is approximately comparable speed wise to EV-DO.

AT&T Yahoo! Enhanced Online Photos Experience

Today AT&T and Yahoo announced the upgrade of their photo service.

The new version will make it easier for subscribers to share photos over PCs and mobile devices.

AT&T Yahoo Photos will include features such as photo-tagging and online "playlists" of photos that automatically recognize and add tagged photos to online albums.

A new survey commissioned by AT&T provides feedback on using digital photos with online tools, ideas on digital "photo personalities," ways to share and reasons why people like working with digital photos, among other topics.



 

Qualcomm to Launch MedioFlO in Japan in 2008

Today Qualcomm Inc. announced it is planning to roll out technology that can broadcast video to mobile phones in Japan in 2008.

Cell phones can already be used in Japan to watch terrestrial digital TV broadcasts as well as download music, surf the Internet and pay for train tickets.

The new Qualcomm service, called MediaFLO, will let viewers watch live streaming and also download music videos, news programmes and sports clips.

Qualcomm, based in San Diego, California, is spending $800 million on the technology and plans to launch the service with Verizon Wireless, a venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group Plc.
