Apple iPhone Battery Replacement Kit for $20
Yesterday we reported that Apple and AT&T are being sued by Jose Trujillo, an iPhone owner, over the fee consumers must pay to replace the iPhone battery. Replacing the iPhone battery isn’t easy and to maintain the warranty you have to send it back to Apple at a cost of $79 to replace the battery plus another $6.95 for shipping. You may want to try to change the battery yourself. SHOP.BRANDO.COM.HK is selling an iPhone Replacement Battery Kit for US$20 which includes a rechargeable battery, assembly tools, and instructions on how to replace the battery. Apple has stated that the battery replacement process requires solder (using heat to join metal parts) so it's not understood how the kit would work. Of course if you take the risk and dismantle your iPhone you will void your warrantee. So be careful.

Offers for Bankrupt SunRocket Customers
Now that SunRocket has claimed for bankruptcy. You start to see a tone of offers for SunRocket customers. Which makes sense since 200k customers lost there VoIP service overnight! Which meant they could have prepaid $199 and only got like a month of service out of it. So now VoIP customers are scrambling to get there phone line back on. Some will remember Vonage but the ones that do there research will realize that Vonage VoIP service has also had some issues with its stock. So who do you turn too? Well do your research and really compare offers for sunrocket customers. You’ll find that some may just be too good to be true. One Sunrocket Special Promotion that I liked, is from a service provider that’s not really a landline VoIP solution. But something that compliments your current cell phone or VoIP provider to help reduce your call and let you call while you on the go. |

Apple & AT&T Being Sued over iPhone Battery Replacement
Apple and AT&T are being sued by Jose Trujillo, an iPhone owner, over the fee consumers must pay for replacing the iPhone battery. Consumer rights group, Foundation for Consumer and Taxpayer Rights, have also been attacking Apple and AT&T over this issue.
Apple is charging $79 plus $6.95 for shipping costs to replace the iPhone battery. Ouch! It will take 3 business days, however, for an additional $29 Apple users can rent a loaner iPhone. The iPhone battery is soldered inside of the device and it cannot be changed by users.
It's not understood why Apple would have this goofy policy for replacing the iPhone’s battery. With all the technology available today, why can't users replace their own battery? There are ways around soldering. This is just a money-making scheme for Apple.
The Foundation for Consumer and Taxpayer Rights claims that Apple and AT&T didn't announce their battery replacement policy before launching the iPhone. Consumers should have been given notice before they purchased the device.

OpenMoko Creates 1st Free Mobile Phone Operating System
OpenMoko is an open source project to create the world's first free mobile phone operating system. OpenMoko has introduced the Neo 1973 as the first cell phone to support an open-source, Linux based operating system. The Neo 1973 is being developed by the Taiwanese company FIC as part of the OpenMoko project, and features an iPhone-like touch (although not finger intuitive) 2.8 inch screen. The Neo 1973 includes a built in GPS system, Bluetooth, WiFi and MicroSD.
Currently it is not suitable for users. The state of the software at the moment is pre-alpha. If you order a Neo 1973, DO NOT expect to be able to use it as an everyday phone for several months. The Neo 1973 is open to any mobile carrier, and allows installation of any software. Because the Neo 1973 is open source it's open for development and future add-ons by software developers.
The OpenMoko project is a community that anyone can join, to help design their ideal phone. Eventually, cell phone software won't be tied to any particular phone. You can install any OpenMoko software over the whole range of supported phones, and if you upgrade your phone, you don't lose that software. Bugs fixed on any phone are fixed on all. |
