22 Year Old Chinese Man Killed by Exploding Cell Phone Battery

In China a news paper reported that a 22 year old man died when his cell phone battery exploded while he was working in hot temperatures. The man was welding in a factory in Shuangcheng, Jinta County, Gansu Province. The news paper reported that this is the first type accident every reported in China. There was no word as to how hot the environment was or the make and model of the exploded cell phone or battery. However, the manufacturer of the cell phone was notified and experts were sent to the location to conduct an investigation. The explosion broke the man's rib driving it to his heart. He collapsed in a pool of blood and was rushed to the hospital where he died. |
However, there have been reports of cell phone and laptop batteries starting fires. Last March we also reported that due to a few recent fires among commercial airplanes caused by lithium batteries, the US government is considering new restrictions on how passengers carry these batteries used to power laptop computers and cell phones onboard.
