| An Italian named Roberto Bernocco is reported to be the first person to write a 385 page book on his Nokia 6630 cell phone as he commuted for 17 weeks by train between his home in Cuneo Italy and his office in Piedmont, Italy. The book, a science fiction novel titled, "Compagni di Viaggo (Fellow Travelers)", was typed via short paragraphs every day using the phone's T9 typing system. T9 is a predictive text function found on many cell phones that enables the user to quickly type words. Bernocco published his book with help from lulu.com, a website that allows authors to publish and market their written original content. lulu.com was founded by Canadian businessman Bob Young and currently has over 300,000 titles created by authors in 80 countries. The novel is available on the site for $17.38 US. According to Bernocco, a married father with one child, "Only a few years ago I would have struggled to find both the time and the publisher to enable me to create this book...Thanks to my Nokia and Lulu, I am now proud to be a published author." | ![]() |
