NTT DoCoMo Announces 2 Smartphones w/ Microsoft Mobile

August 31, 2007 9:36 AM | Microsoft | Smartphone | Comments (0)

NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today the development of two smartphones equipped with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Japanese-edition operating system.

The FOMA F1100 and FOMA HT1100 allow users to interface with PCs through proven applications such as Outlook Mobile and Internet Explorer Mobile, while the scalable plug-in environment means access to a growing number of applications. The HSDPA-capable handsets employ McAfee security scan to ensure high-speed, protected browsing of PC websites and email management. The security scan function identifies and isolates malicious data before it is downloaded.

Data entry on the F1100 and HT1100 is accomplished with a standard ten-key input layout — as such, these handsets combine smartphone capability with mobile phone convenience.

DoCoMo plans to begin marketing the handsets during the first quarter of calendar year 2008.

Improve Your Cell Phone Signal Indoors with zBoost

August 30, 2007 6:29 PM | Gadgets | Comments (0)

Do you have problems with cell phone service in your home?  As soon as you enter the door or begin to walk around the dreaded signal bars go away thus losing your signal thus losing that very important call.  To fix the annoying problem, instead of going through the pain of changing cell phone carriers, consider using the Wi-Ex zBoost to improve indoor cell phone coverage.

zBoost captures the wireless signal outside, brings it inside and enhances, or boosts it; thus extending a Cell Zone in your home or office or your car.  zBoost repeats and amplifies the signal and is frequency dependent. zBoost works with most phones and carriers (except Nextel) and comes in 4 models.

Check www.wirelessadvisor.com to determine what frequency your carrier is operating in your zip code.

India Using Cell Phones to Reduce Traffic Problems

August 30, 2007 6:12 PM | Services | Comments (0)

Bangalore, India is leading the pack to help alleviate their traffic problems using cell phone technology.  Traffic in Bangalore is horrible so the Bangalore Traffic Police, Mapunity (developer of geographic information systems and services) and Airtel (provider of telecommunications services) have come up with an urban traffic information system for Bangalore city known as Bangalore Transport Information System (BTIS).

With BTIS (lunched last June), real-time traffic information is generated from the cell phone tower logs of Airtel's city-wide network, and made available to commuters to see live congestion hotspots, find directions and plan their travel routes. The entire information system is available through SMS to Airtel customers using a shortcode and to others by dialing a ten-digit number. This live traffic information system is the first of its kind in India. It addresses the growing need of traffic administrators for centralized traffic monitoring and control infrastructure.

Approximately 8 billion ATM transactions are performed annually in the United States, according to the Dove 2006 ATM Deployer Study. Those transactions add up to $600 billion in cash dispensed each year.

Simplest Cell Phone Powered by Single AA Battery

August 28, 2007 3:49 PM | Interesting | Comments (2)

Are you a simple person? Or are you really cheap?  All the flash and stuff that comes with a cell phone means nothing to you and all you want is to use your cell to just talk to someone.

Well it seems other people feel the way you feel.  According to Mobile Magazine, Sanyo and Wilcomm have partnered to create the simplest cell phone on the planet.  The cell phone (see picture to the right) doesn't even come with a screen.  It also doesn't include a battery.  Power comes from a single AA battery that gives 5 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

There is no Bluetooth, camera, video, speaker phone, voice menu, text messaging or Internet here.  Just a very basic cell phone like the old land-line home phones.  It's just to talk.  No word as to when this may be available in the U.S. or pricing.  However, I suspect it will be really really cheap! Wonder if anyone will buy it!  Would you?

vTap Mobile Video Search to Launch on 9/10/2007

August 28, 2007 2:20 PM | Cell Phone TV | Comments (2)

Coming soon to a cell phone near you is vTap; which will be launched on September 10, 2007 by Veveo, a startup, based in Andover, MA.  vTap will allow mobile phone users to watch videos from all over the Internet.    Veveo has developed a system to crawl the Internet for video content which then builds a smart index using the company's own algorithms.  Cell phone users then get the video content by an application called vTap, which uses a predictive solution to present the videos.

The vTap search solution is character-based and therefore requires very little text input effort like the T9 predictive text input system commonly found on most mobile phones. Users do not have to type in full keywords. The intuitive technology can also be personalized to each customer’s preferences, to “remember” the essence of past requests and apply the learning to speed up subsequent queries. Advanced clustering algorithms organize search results in a way that’s easy to browse, even on devices with extremely limited on-screen navigation functionality.
