Microsoft Considering Zune Cell Phone

| Yes it seems that another company is eager to follow Google's and Yahoo's lead to offering a cell phone. Now Microsoft is giving stronger hints that it too may offer a mobile phone after witnessing the hype and success of the Apple iPhone. In September 2006, we reported that Microsoft Corp. reported that a Zune-branded phone is part of its future plans to expand in the digital music market. In future reports Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer, said that the Zune phone is not a concept that Microsoft would ever pursue. However, according to a Reuters report today, Microsoft has stated that it's "not unreasonable" for the company to introduce a mobile phone combined with features of its Zune digital music player to compete with Apple Inc.'s iPhone. Microsoft already provides Windows Mobile software to handset manufacturers; however, the company believes an integrated business model of making both device and software could make sense. | ![]() |
It would be ironic that companies of the top three search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) launch their own cell phones.
