| According to Reuters, Skype (owned by eBay) is working with 3 (UK cell phone service operator) to develop a cell phone that will allow cell phone users in the UK to make free calls via the Internet. 3 has confirmed that they are working to make the Internet mobile phone a reality, however, they would not confirm any further details or who they was working with. The Internet cell phone is expected to operate as a normal cell phone; however, it would include a Skype function to contact other Skype customers. Skype uses an Internet connection to place a voice call, bypassing the telephony network for which telecoms operators charge by the minute. Skype calls to other broadband-connected Skype users are free. Skype did not give any further details but said the phone would be out later this year. |
