The Variety of Mobile Phone Ringtones Today

December 19, 2007 11:24 AM | Interesting | Comments (1)

Mobile phone is one of the most popular devices today. The sound indicating an incoming call also known as a ringtone is an interesting part of our mobile phones.

In the beginning only few mobile phone companies offered cell phones with changeable ringtones. Today you can change the ringtones on all mobile phones. It is now simple to find and transfer all kind of mobile ringtones.

There are different types or ringtones for mobile phones. The ringtones are separated into three main groups. The first and the oldest group of mobile ringtones is monophonic. Monophonic ringtones play just one music tone at a time. Old mobile phones use monophonic ringtones and today are not so popular. Additionally, some older mobile phones included melody composer that enabled you to create your own monophonic ringtone. You can still find monophonic ringtones by searching the Internet.

The second group of mobile ringtones is polyphonic. Polyphonic ringtones play several types of music tones at the same time. Polyphonic ringtones sound richer and more realistic than monophonic causing it to be more popular. There are many web sites which offering polyphonic ringtones.

The last group of cell phone ringtones is truetone also known as real mp3 tone. Realtone is the latest evolution of the ringtone. Parts of popular songs or even entire songs can be used as ringtones. In the future all mobile phones will use only realtones in mp3 format because of the sound quality. Using realtones is much more appealing to cell phone owners.

You forgot ringback tones ;) Cellular phone companies like Verizon Wireless offer ringback tones which are played for someone when they call your cell phone instead of the normal ringing sound. Virgin mobile is the only prepaid cellular company that offers ringback tones that I know of, but most of the big cellular companies offer them now.
