France Issues Warning for Children Using Cell Phones

France's Health Ministry, Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, yesterday issued a warning against excessive cell phone use, especially by children. The health Ministry issued the warning although it recognizes that research science has not proved cellular technology to be dangerous. France is concerned about mobile phones designed for children because children are particularly vulnerable to any possible health effects. | ![]() |
A November 2006 report from the World Health Organization (WHO) claimed that evidence suggests long-term exposure to radio-frequency and microwave radiation from mobile phones had no adverse health effects. However, the WHO stated other studies pointed to an increased risk of tumors in people who have used an analogue mobile phone for more than 10 years.
Last month a new study has found that cell phone use increases the risk of mouth cancer. Scientists have found that 5 years of heavy cell phone usage increases the chance of developing a tumor by approximately 50 percent compared with people who never use a cell phone.
The study is the latest to link cell phone use to cancer. Last September UK's Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research (MTHR) Program published a report stating that after a six year study they found mobile phone usage have no association with any biological or adverse health effects.
