Rumor: Nokia & Facebook Working on Deal

| Rumors are Nokia and Facebook are working on a deal that would place Facebook on Nokia handsets. Like the YouTube icon on the iPhone, the Facebook icon would be prominent of Nokia handsets. Facebook would also be prominently displayed in Nokia retail product displays. Rumors also include Nokia purchasing a stake in Facebook. A Nokia-Facebook deal would give Facebook instant access to millions of mobile users. Nokia has been pushing hard on the Internet. The company has launched numerous Internet services which include Ovi, its mobile social network Mosh, and its recent acquisitions in the larger media applications space. Last October, Nokia purchased digital mapping provider Navteq for $8.1 billion to eventually offer customers location-based services. Last October, Nokia announced a deal to provide a year’s free access to Universal’s music catalog on some Nokia phones. | ![]() |
Nokia also purchased three other smaller companies last year:
- Avvenu (file sharing on mobiles and between mobile-PC)
- Twango (media sharing service for about $100 million)
- Enpocket (mobile advertising and marketing services)
