More bad news for Sprint Nextel. Today Qwest Communications International Inc. announced it will stop reselling Sprint Nextel Corp.'s wireless service and move its subscribers to Verizon Wireless' network. Qwest signed a five-year contract with Verizon Wireless that will start this summer. Current Qwest wireless customers will receive a free, comparable Verizon Wireless handset, towards the last three months of this year. It's also been reported that Sprint was considering spinning off Nextel. Earlier we reported that Deutsche Telekom AG, the parent of T-Mobile USA, is considering a bid for Sprint. | ![]() |
We also reported that the federal appeals court ordered Sprint Nextel Corp to meet a June 26 deadline to vacate airwaves it uses that are close to public safety agency networks. The move may cost Sprint more than $3.4 billion, including $1.1 billion it has already spent. The future for Sprint Nextel looks bleak.
