Cox to Launch Cellular Network Next Year

Atlanta-based Cox Communications Inc. will announce Monday plans to launch its own cellular network next year. Cox has spent $550 million on airwaves licenses which signaled their desire to enter the market.
Cox's licenses cover the Atlanta area, New Orleans, San Diego, Omaha, Neb., and Las Vegas as well as much of Kansas and southern New Mexico covering about about 23 million people,.

Cox will partner with Sprint-Nextel for roaming outside those areas. Wireless phone service will add to Cox's video, phone and Internet services to head off competition from phone companies like AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc., which already have wireless service and are rolling out video.
