Alltel Wireless today announced that it will continue expanding its wireless broadband network in 2008 with the launch of EVDO (evolution data optimized) Revision A technology, enabling customers to upload files five to 10 times faster than before. Alltel’s existing broadband Wireless Internet service enables remote access to corporate intranets, productivity enhancing applications and a variety of consumer products, such as Alltel TV and XM Radio Mobile. Rev. A will enhance the performance of all of those services. Alltel plans an initial rollout of Rev. A to 18 market areas and dozens of cities, including Charlotte , New Orleans , Phoenix and Tampa . Customers using Rev. A will experience average upload speeds of 500-800 Kbps with bursts up to 1.8 Mbps. Verizon Wireless is the buying Alltel Corporation. The companies has entered into an agreement which includes Atlantis Holdings LLC, an affiliate of private investment firm TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners, for Verizon Wireless to acquire Alltel Corporation in a cash merger. Verizon Wireless will acquire the equity of Alltel for approximately $5.9 billion. Based on Alltel’s projected net debt at closing of $22.2 billion, the aggregate value of the transaction is $28.1 billion. The merget is expected to be completed by the end of the year which is subject to obtaining regulatory approvals. Once this transaction closes, customers of both companies will have access to an expanded range of products and services, including a premier lineup of basic and advanced devices and an expanded IN Network calling community. |

Net customer additions also hit a new high with a 63 percent increase year-over-year. Revenues were $2.3 billion, an 11 percent increase from the same period a year ago. In celebrating the second anniversary of “My Circle,” Alltel Wireless is unveiling a special bonus number to customers, making the most cost-effective unlimited calling plan in the wireless industry even better.
Beginning today, all customers celebrating their two-year anniversary with “My Circle” will automatically receive one free “bonus” number added to their current “My Circle” plan.
