According to the Associated Press, Alltel and Verizon will refund an estimated $30 million to Florida cell phone customers who were billed for unwanted third party services, such as horoscopes, ringtones and music. The charges would mysteriously appear on customer's bills with names such as "OpenMarket" and "M-Blox".
Verizon and Alltel will refund an estimated $24 million and $6 million, respectively. Verizon is in the process of purchasing Alltel. Last year AT&T settled with New York for nationwide refunds.

Alltel Wireless announced today that effective June 5, 1-year postpaid service contracts will replace the industry-standard 2-year service contract for Alltel’s new and renewing customers. In addition, beginning tomorrow, Alltel will be the only wireless carrier to offer 2-year postpaid handset pricing to those signing 1-year contracts, creating enhanced flexibility and greater choice for Alltel customers.
The 1-year contract option is available only to customers in the 91 cellular market areas (CMAs) that Verizon is required to divest, which will continue to operate as Alltel Wireless until they are sold.
