Alltel Wireless and LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. announced today the LG Rhythm. The LG Rhythm was created with music enthusiasts in mind and is equipped with one of the most advanced music systems available.

Sleek and stylish, the LG Rhythm offers customers a premium music player with Digital Signal Processing as well as a graphic equalizer professionally tuned by Mr. Mark Levinson. The phone also includes an FM transmitter that easily streams songs to a car stereo or other receiver from up to 10 feet away. Alltel Wireless Offer Customers Access to nuTsie

Alltel Wireless today announced that it is the first wireless carrier to offer its customers access to nuTsie, a service that allows users to listen to playlists from their iTunes libraries on over 10 Alltel wireless handsets.  In addition, nuTsie enables users to share those lists with friends across the Internet and on their mobile devices.

nuTsie, available for $4.99 a month or  $19.99 for one year, can be accessed by visiting Alltel Shop located on the handset.  In addition to being able to play  music from their iTunes collections, customers can also listen to recommended music based on their playlists and explore hundreds of thousands of playlists from other users and nuTsie’s music experts, providing a new world of music right at their fingertips.

Alltel Introduces Alltel Avatars - 3D Animated MMS Greeting Service

Alltel today announced the introduction of Alltel Avatars, a 3D animated MMS greeting service that allows users to choose from an extensive library of pre-produced greetings or allows them to use templates to create their own greeting using 3D avatars, photos, voice and more.  Alltel Avatars is powered by Vidiator, a 3G mobile multimedia platform provider and its Xend 3D hosted platform.

Greetings are available starting at only 99 cents, with hundreds of cards to choose from at launch. The service also provides users with the ability to add emoticons, personal audio tracks, and personal digital signatures to their messages. In addition, users can create an animated image from their photos, combine it with their typed or audio message and send to mobile devices or e-mail.
Unique avatar-based content that Alltel is launching includes branded greeting card content, personalized greetings created using consumers' own photos, advertising campaigns and corporate communications.

Alltel, Sprint Nextel, U.S. Cellular & Verizon Wireless Have Highest Call Quality

Alltel, Sprint Nextel, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless each rank highest in wireless call quality in their respective regions, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study—Volume 2 released today.

The semi-annual study measures wireless call quality based on seven problem areas that impact overall carrier performance: dropped calls; static/interference; failed connection on the first try; voice distortion; echoes; no immediate voice mail notification; and no immediate text message notification. Call quality issues are measured as problems per 100 (PP100) calls, where a lower score reflects fewer problems and higher quality.

Study results by region are:

Northeast Region: Verizon Wireless ranks highest for an eighth consecutive time, with fewer customer-reported problems in dropped calls, initial connections and static/interference compared with the regional average.

Alltel & Txtstation to Provide Unique Promotions for Sponsored Sports Properties

Alltel Wireless and Txtstation announced they will be working together as part of an ongoing effort to provide unique promotions to fans at select Alltel sponsored sports properties.  As the Official Wireless Partner of Fans, Alltel will leverage Txtstation’s capabilities and implement a real time text messaging feature at five sponsored properties.  Additional properties are currently under consideration and may be added to the campaign at a later date.
The text feature, titled the ‘Alltel Fan Poll’ will pose a compelling question to fans inside the stadium and ask them to weigh-in with their opinions.  At each home game, fans will be able to interact with the video board by sending a text message from their wireless phone to 88222.  Within seconds, votes will appear live on the screen, causing percentages to change and providing a fun and entertaining experience for all. 
The “Alltel Fan Poll” will debut later this summer as the football season begins.


Alltel Launches MyShow - Mobile Slideshow Application

Alltel Wireless has launched MyShow, the first user-generated mobile slideshow application. MyShow, enables customers the ability to become social media publishers with a few simple clicks to create custom slideshows that showcase their phone’s photos of choice.  Alltel is the first North American wireless carrier to offer the MyShow application.

MyShow delivers end-to-end integration between the mobile device and the Web, allowing customers to browse, create and instantly share all the special moments captured on their phone’s camera. 

The application automatically composes slideshows that can be personalized with text and background music.  Users can upload their slideshows to MyShow’s companion Web site as well as embed the MyShow “widget” and broadcast  slideshows on popular social networking sites.

Alltel Wireless to Launch EVDO Wireless Broadband Network

Alltel Wireless today announced that it will continue expanding its wireless broadband network in 2008 with the launch of  EVDO (evolution data optimized) Revision A technology, enabling customers to upload files five to 10 times faster than before.

Alltel’s existing broadband Wireless Internet service enables remote access to corporate intranets, productivity enhancing applications and a variety of consumer products, such as Alltel TV and XM Radio Mobile. Rev. A will enhance the performance of all of those services. Alltel plans an initial rollout of Rev. A to 18 market areas and dozens of cities, including Charlotte , New Orleans , Phoenix and Tampa . Customers using Rev. A will experience average upload speeds of 500-800 Kbps with bursts up to 1.8 Mbps. Upload speeds on the company’s existing broadband network average 50-70 Kbps, with bursts up to 144 Kbps, so the enhanced network will be five to 10 times faster.

Verizon Wireless is the buying Alltel Corporation.  The companies has entered into an agreement which includes Atlantis Holdings LLC, an affiliate of private investment firm TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners, for Verizon Wireless to acquire Alltel Corporation in a cash merger.

Verizon Wireless will acquire the equity of Alltel for approximately $5.9 billion. Based on Alltel’s projected net debt at closing of $22.2 billion, the aggregate value of the transaction is $28.1 billion.  The merget is expected to be completed by the end of the year which is subject to obtaining regulatory approvals.

Once this transaction closes, customers of both companies will have access to an expanded range of products and services, including a premier lineup of basic and advanced devices and an expanded IN Network calling community.


Alltel Adds More Than 1 Million Customers Last Quarter

Alltel achieved record customer growth in the first quarter, adding more than 1 million gross customers for the second consecutive quarter. Net customer additions also hit a new high with a 63 percent increase year-over-year.

Revenues were $2.3 billion, an 11 percent increase from the same period a year ago. The company reported a net loss of $125 million, due primarily to significant increases in interest costs and depreciation and amortization expense following the completion of the merger.

When Alltel Wireless launched “My Circle” offer two years ago, customers were introduced to the concept of unlimited free calling.  In celebrating the second anniversary of “My Circle,” Alltel Wireless is unveiling a special bonus number to customers, making the most cost-effective unlimited calling plan in the wireless industry even better.

Alltel Wireless has partnered with Ontela to bring their customers PhotoCopter, a  service that finally unlocks the photos trapped inside their phones. PhotoCopter saves every camera phone picture customers snap to their home computers and favorite web photo albums. PhotoCopter automatically transfers the taken picture to the PC -- with no extra buttons to push.

The PhotoCopter service is exclusively available to Alltel customers with the Motorola V3m, V3a, V9m and ROKR for $2.99/month, providing customers with unlimited picture transfer to their PC, email address, and web photo albums including Photobucket, Flickr, Blogger, and Snapfish.

Pandora Media, a personalized radio service online, and Alltel Wireless launched an marketing campaign where Pandora users in specific Alltel Wireless markets will be invited to submit their favorite hometown bands on Pandora's website (

On the homepage, an Alltel Wireless ad asks its customers and consumers nationwide to join a collaborative effort to create Alltel Wireless branded, local music stations across the country to promote distinct, regional music styles and the local artists who play them. Users can then share their personal stations, songs or favorite musical groups with others.

Pandora's registration process captures users' zip codes and makes it possible to engage in precise "geo-targeting," bringing Alltel Wireless' "My Circle" message to its best prospects.
