Alltel to Offer WHERE Location-Based Service Application

Whether traveling in their hometowns, or on the other side of the country, Alltel Wireless customers will have access to WHERE, a state-of-the-art location-based service (LBS) application. WHERE, created by uLocate Communications, provides detailed and customized information including maps and directions for thousands of locations, directly to Alltel phones.

The application is available for download in Alltel’s Axcess Shop for $2.99 per month. The application will initially launch on five phones: The Wafer, The Alltel Hue and u520 by Samsung as well as The Wave and AX8600 by LG.

Alltel Wireless customers who download WHERE on their GPS-enabled phones will be able to easily locate gas stations, shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, golf courses, ATMs, hospitals and schools. WHERE also provides up-to-date information on local events and allows customers to customize the application by providing local weather, news, traffic conditions, directions, ski reports and more. 


 

MOTORAZR2 Debuts Via Most US Wireless Carriers

Motorola just announced that it's highly-anticipated MOTORAZR2 will be available from Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless, with availability from certain carriers within 14 days. Consumers should check with their wireless carrier for specific availability dates. Major U.S wireless carriers began announcing pricing and availability dates for the blade-thin device.

The Motorola RAZR2 has smart features such as blazing-fast 3G wireless broadband, and modern style that’s slimmer and stronger than the original. The MOTORAZR2 family – V9 (3G HSDPA), V9m (3G EVDO CDMA) and V8 (GSM) – will be available to users of all three major technology networks. The product features a larger internal screen for full HTML web browsing1 and a best-in-class external screen that enables viewing media, music and/or messaging without opening the flip.

Consumers will also receive touch feedback on the external screen through “haptic” key technology. The product also features Motorola CrystalTalk™ 3 for better voice quality, up to 2GB of on-board memory 4, real-time point-to-point video1 and ultra-fast menu navigation.

 

Alltel Launches Axcess TV on Demand Service

Alltel Wireless today announced Axcess TV on Demand, an application that provides more than 200 on-demand video clips for customers to view whenever they want and wherever they are.

Customers who subscribe to the basic package, for $3.99 per month, will receive content from NBC News, NBC Entertainment, FOXSports.com, Discovery Mobile, and MTV Networks’ MTV, VH1, and COMEDY CENTRAL. Axcess TV on Demand programs include clips from “The Tonight Show,” “The Office,” “Last Comic Standing,” “My Super Sweet 16,” “Best Week Ever,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “FOX Wire,” “FOX Rewind, ” “Dirty Jobs” and much more.

In addition to the basic package, Alltel Wireless offers a premium version of Axcess TV on Demand for an added $5.99 per month. Premium customers will receive extra content clips from the channels available in the basic package plus programming from NBC Sports, “Access Hollywood,” IGN Entertainment, BravoToGo, USA Mobile, SCI FI Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, MTV Networks’ CMT, Spike, Nickelodeon and more. Axcess TV on Demand is available on select video-capable handsets.

 

Alltel Launches the LG Wave

Today Alltel Wireless launches the Wave by LG. The phone, exclusively available at Alltel Wireless retail stores and shopalltel.com, features a rolling design that mimics the curl of a wave as the deep colors fade into black.

The LG Wave includes:

  • 1.3 megapixel camera with video capabilities
  • MP3 player with external controls
  • Expandable memory slot
  • Bluetooth Stereo technology
  • GPS capable
  • Preloaded with Alltel Axcess features such as XM Radio Mobile and Axcess Search.
The Wave provides customers the ability to personalize their phone with features such as Jump Music, free software that enables customers to transfer music files from their personal computers, and Celltop, a patent-pending technology that offers customers an easier way to access, manage and organize a wide range of information.

 

Alltel 1st Carrier to Launch mywaves Mobile Video Service

Alltel Wireless today announced that it is the first North American carrier to launch mywaves, a mobile video service that allows customers to browse thousands of “Web videos” and watch them from their phone for $3.99 per month. Last December mywaves launched its 10,000 Channel Cell Phone Video Service.

Customers can easily download the application from their phone via the Alltel Axcess Shop and customize the content by choosing their favorite genres including comedy, sports, health, business, music, technology and more. 

The application, which provides access to professional programming, user-generated videos and personal videos, allows users to bookmark their favorite sites, so that they can quickly view new content as it is added.

Alltel customers can also choose for text messages to be sent to their phones, alerting them when new clips are available in their channels of choice.


 

Alltel & NBC Universal to Offer Network On Demand Content

Alltel Wireless, America ’s largest network, and NBC Universal (NBCU), one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies, today announced a partnership that will bring network content to Alltel Wireless customers.  The agreement includes distribution of  NBCU’s eleven video on-demand channels, mobile Web sites, ringtones, ringbacks and wallpapers.  The content will be available via Alltel’s Axcess data services.

All of NBCU’s short-form video channels including NBC News, Access Hollywood, Telemundo, mun2, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Bravo, SCI FI Channel, USA Network and digital originals from dotcomedy.com will be available to Alltel Wireless customers.  Full episodes of NBC’s critically acclaimed “Friday Night Lights” will also be available on demand.

Alltel Lauches MyEconoday - Mobile Financial News

Alltel Wireless today announced that it is the first carrier to launch MyEconoday, an application providing Alltel customers immediate access to up-to-date economic indicator reports, as well as dates and times of economic and corporate events.

MyEconoday for Alltel delivers the information automatically to the corresponding date and time in a user’s Outlook or BlackBerry calendar. These events become a part of customers’ daily schedule, making it easier than ever before to stay informed of market activity.

Alltel’s MyEconoday provides users with two options to gain access to key market-moving information. Subscribers can sync their Alltel mobile devices to their Outlook calendar or have the information delivered wirelessly to their BlackBerry calendar.
Unique to MyEconoday is the ability to customize the received information delivered to an investor’s calendar. Simple online customization gives subscribers the ability to focus on those indicators and events of interest to them.

 

 

Alltel To Be Acquired for $27.5 Billion

Yesterday, Alltel Corp. announced that it has signed a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by TPG Capital and GS Capital Partners, in a transaction valued at approximately $27.5 billion.

Under the terms of the merger agreement, TPG Capital and GSCP will acquire all of the outstanding common stock of Alltel for $71.50 per share in cash. The purchase price per share represents a 23% premium over Alltel's closing share price prior to media reports of a potential transaction published on December 29, 2006. Alltel intends to pay its regular quarterly common share dividend until closing.

The PC-based Jump Music application gives Alltel Wireless customers greater control over their mobile music experience, empowering them to find, manage and easily transfer music files with the simple click of a button.

Alltel Changes Wireless Phones with Celltop

Alltel Wireless today announced the launch of Celltop, an exclusive, patent-pending technology, built on Qualcomm's BREW uiOne platform that offers customers an easier way to access, manage and organize a wide range of information already available on their Alltel Wireless phones. Celltop gives customers more control over their wireless experience through a unique and fully-customizable technology similar to the desktop on a personal computer.

Now available on select Alltel Wireless handsets, and on all new phones by late-2007, Celltop is free-of-charge and features 10 "cells" that come pre-installed and via download. Each cell is a category-specific half screen comprised of graphics and text that provides shortcuts for wireless users to navigate through information and applications including: call log, weather, news, baseball, basketball, football, rodeo, stocks, text messaging inbox and ringtones.

Fastap - All Letters & Numbers On Your Cell Phone Keypad

Digital Wireless has created Fastap which is a patented keypad technology that adds all letters to your cell phone keypad in addition to the numbers.  The letters appear in alphabetical order on 26 small, raised buttons positioned at every corner between the standard keys found on a typical cell phone.

One keypad offers two levels of functionality. 

  • Raised Keys – raised above the lowered keys and spaced far from each other to allow easy key pressing without kitting number keys.
  • Lowered Keys – Error prevention software allows error-free operation with any size finger

Fastap is available in the United States via Alltel’s LG AX490 (launched last July), which is the first cell phone from a U.S. carrier equipped with the Digit's alphanumeric keypad technology.  The AX490 flip phone also comes with a VGA camera, a speakerphone, and Bluetooth.

  

 

Alltel Wireless Launches the MOTOKRZR K1m

Alltel Wireless, and Motorola, today announced that MOTOKRZR K1m, the latest in the enormously popular MOTORAZR family of wireless phones, is available online at shopalltel.com starting Oct. 2, 2006. It will be available in Alltel retail stores nationwide Oct. 5, 2006.  Verizon Wireless recently launched the Motorola MOTOKRZR K1m.

MOTOKRZR is narrower than MOTORAZR and yet the new handset includes all the advanced features customers want, including an MP3 player and video camera.

MOTOKRZR features a dark pearl gray glass finish and refined metal keyboard. Exterior touch-sensitive controls enable users to control their music while the flip phone is closed. An optional microSD™ memory card provides up to 1 GB of removable storage.

Alltel to Launch XM Satellite Radio for Mobile Phones

Alltel Wireless, today announced an agreement with XM Satellite Radio that will make Alltel customers the first in the United States to have access to a wide range of XM Satellite Radio programming via their wireless phones. Alltel Wireless customers can gain unlimited access to select XM radio channels from the XM Radio Mobile service for $7.99 per month.

The application was developed by MobiTV, the global leader in television and digital radio services for cellular, Wi-Fi and broadband enabled devices.
