February 7, 2008 12:12 AM | Gadgets | Comments (0)

If you ever get stranded on an island with cell phone reception but no power to recharge the battery, then you may want to make sure you have the cell phone solar panel charger.  This unique little charger which get's power from the sun, will not quickly charge your cell phone completely but if your battery is dead it will give it enough power to boost the battery thus giving you a few minutes of chat time. (See previous article on using wind power to charge cell phones).

For a full charge, you will need direct sun light on the solar panel for 6 to 10 hours.  The design of the solar panel is small enough to attach to the cell phone so when you are outside chatting you can also be charging your handset.

The solar panel charger also can be used as a backup battery.  If it's cloudy outside or you don't have 6 to 10 hours to charge it, you can charge the solar panel charger with an AC adapter.  The cell phone solar panel charger is expected to be launched in Japan on February 9, 2008.  No word if the device will ever be available in the U.S.

Tired of Poor In-Home Cell Phone Reception?

October 26, 2007 10:05 AM | Gadgets | Comments (1)

Tired of your poor cell phone reception in your home?  Or are you looking to get rid of your landline but there are dead spots in your home?  Well there are three new technologies to consider that will solve your problem.  One lets you make calls over your home Wi-Fi network through your cell phone, the other uses "femtocell" which is a small in-home cell tower, while the third boost your cell phone signal.

Two services use broadband connection to route in-home cell phone calls over the Internet using VoIP, however they allow you to send and receive calls directly from your cell phone, with your regular cell phone number. You start a call indoors over broadband and continue it outside over cellular, and vice versa. Both systems are transparent to use and both function well.

The Sprint AIRAVE by Samsung is the first commercially available femtocell, a compact base station that works with any Sprint phone and a broadband Internet connection to provide enhanced in-home wireless coverage plus unlimited calling.

Improve Your Cell Phone Signal Indoors with zBoost

August 30, 2007 6:29 PM | Gadgets | Comments (0)

Do you have problems with cell phone service in your home?  As soon as you enter the door or begin to walk around the dreaded signal bars go away thus losing your signal thus losing that very important call.  To fix the annoying problem, instead of going through the pain of changing cell phone carriers, consider using the Wi-Ex zBoost to improve indoor cell phone coverage.

zBoost captures the wireless signal outside, brings it inside and enhances, or boosts it; thus extending a Cell Zone in your home or office or your car.  zBoost repeats and amplifies the signal and is frequency dependent. zBoost works with most phones and carriers (except Nextel) and comes in 4 models.

Check www.wirelessadvisor.com to determine what frequency your carrier is operating in your zip code.

U.K. based telecommunications firm, Orange, announced plans to launch the Orange Mobile Wind Charger for recharging any portable electronic device outdoors such as mobile phones.

Designed for use in outdoor settings, with winds of 12 mph it will take roughly 24 hours to fully charge an average cell phone.

The charger was developed at the University of Texas at Arlington and weighs about a third of a pound.  It's small enough to fit into a backpack.  Gotwind.org, a do-it-yourself website for energy enthusiasts was approached by Orange to build the prototype charger. (See Pictures)

No official release date or pricing details were given by Orange.

Protect Yourself with a Cell Phone Stun Gun

August 16, 2007 8:30 PM | Gadgets | Comments (0)

Crooks beware!  The next time you plan on robbing or attacking someone and they come at you with their cell phone, well that cell phone may be a weapon.

You can purchase a cell phone stun gun with a whopping 800,000 volts of electric current.  That will stop an attacker dead in his track. Just three to five seconds of contact with a stun gun will put an attacker immediately on the ground in contorted in pain. Stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes.

Having a cell phone stun gun is a great way to hide the fact it's a stun gun.  Because everyone has a cell phone it blends right in.  However, if you are considering purchasing a cell phone stun gun, every state has laws governing their use.

Change Your Phone No. on Caller ID & Voice with SpoofCard

July 24, 2007 5:52 PM | Gadgets | Services | Comments (1)

Someone or some people decided to make money by allowing telephone users to change their caller ID phone number and voice to fool someone they are calling.  The service is called "SpoofCard". To change the caller ID on the destination phone, you dial a toll free number, enter you PIN and then the destination number followed by the number you want to appear on the caller ID.  The name belonging to the phone number will also appear on the caller ID.  That's pretty sneaky!

So you just broke up with your girlfriend and she won't answer your phone call.  Just use SpoofCard to fool her by changing the information on her caller ID with let's say, her mother's phone number! (TRY THIS PHONE TRICK SIMILAR TO SPOOFCARD)

Another cool feature is you have the ability to change your voice to a Male or Female. If you do choose to change your voice, the person whom you call will hear your transformed voice in real-time. You also have the option to record your conversation, which can later be retrieved by logging-in to the control panel or calling the toll-free access number from any phone.
