T-Mobile and MetroPCS Combination Complete

Deutsche Telekom AG and T-Mobile US, Inc. today announced the completion of the combination of T-Mobile USA, Inc. and MetroPCS Communications, Inc., uniting two wireless innovators with one common vision: to bring wireless consumers exciting new choices while delivering an exceptional experience. The combined company, T-Mobile US, Inc., will begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange today under the ticker “TMUS.”

“The combination of T-Mobile and MetroPCS creates an even stronger disruptive force in the U.S. wireless market,” said John Legere, President & Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile US, Inc. “Together, as America’s Un-carrier, we’ll continue our legacy of marketplace innovation by tearing up the old playbook and rewriting the rules of wireless to benefit consumers.”

As previously announced, the Board of Directors of the combined company will have 11 members, including two directors of MetroPCS who will continue with the combined company. Tim Höttges, currently Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Deutsche Telekom, will serve as Chairman of the Board.

“By uniting T-Mobile and MetroPCS, we have created a dynamic new player in the wireless industry that has the right strategy and management team in place to compete successfully in today’s marketplace,” said Mr. Höttges. “We look forward to realizing the tremendous potential of the new T-Mobile.”
 

 

Livewire Mobile Wins Music Services At Two Major US Carriers

Livewire Mobile, the one-stop digital content solutions provider for carriers, consumer device manufacturers, media companies and consumers, now powers the digital music solutions for Sprint and MetroPCS.

Sprint Music Plus and MetroPCS join the international roster of music download services hosted and merchandized by Livewire, which now has Tier-1 carrier deals in the US, Europe, Canada and Australasia.

Both operators will have full-track music downloads, ringback and ringtones managed by Livewire, with content from all the major music labels and independents from around the world.

The announcement comes on the back of the recently launched unlimited music service Siren, designed, built and powered by Livewire Mobile for Public Mobile in Canada, as well as the deployment of Rumpus, the music discovery application on Android smartphones and tablets.

The Sprint Music Plus and MetroPCS music services will be supported across applications, mobile web and web stores. Sprint customers may find Sprint Music Plus on their Android-powered device by searching for Sprint Music Plus from the Google Play marketplace or by visiting http://sprint.us/smp on Android and Feature phones. The Music application is preloaded on all MetroPCS Android devices.

MetroPCS Communications, Inc. today reached another innovation milestone by announcing the world's first commercial launch of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services, availability of the world's first VoLTE-capable handsets and the first sale of a VoLTE-capable handset at one of the company's Dallas/Fort Worth store locations. MetroPCS is selling the new VoLTE-capable LG Connect 4G Android smartphone at select U.S. stores and will continue to roll out VoLTE services and phones in the coming weeks.

"Being the first operator globally to reach this industry first speaks volumes about our company's innovative spirit and passion to achieve goals that we believe will have long-term benefit for our customers and for the company," said Roger Linquist, chairman and chief executive officer of MetroPCS. The addition of VoLTE capabilities to MetroPCS' 4G LTE handsets will be transparent to consumers as they continue to enjoy all the voice and 4G LTE data services with which they are already familiar. Calls to and from the handset will use VoLTE, regardless of the handset or network used on the other end of the call.

MetroPCS was the first U.S. carrier to deploy a commercial 4G LTE network in September 2010 and has since built out its 4G LTE network to cover roughly 90 percent of its CDMA footprint.

ZTE Achieves 35 Million Handsets Milestone in First Half of 2011

This represents an approximately 30 percent increase year-on-year in handsets shipped and resulted in the firm experiencing a 400 percent increase in smartphone sales and 300 percent US market growth.

Under its innovative smart terminal strategy announced at the beginning of 2011, sales of ZTE smart terminals reached five million units in the first half of 2011, a 400 percent increase year-on-year. In 2011, ZTE’s Blade also became one of the world’s top-selling smartphones. Through partnerships with approximately 80 operators globally, ZTE’s Blade is now available in nearly 50 countries and regions.
