assisTek Awarded Contract to Use Smartphone to Collect Patient's Data

March 19, 2009 11:39 AM | Gadgets | Smartphone | Comments (0)

assisTek, the Leader in Innovative Electronic Patient-Reported Outcomes (ePRO) Solutions and Patient Questionnaires for Clinical Trials, announced that it has been awarded a contract to use their state-of-the-art smart phone technology to collect data from patients at home on electronic diaries in an upcoming large multinational clinical trial.

The smart phone chosen for the trial will be an HTC Fuze, which looks similar to the Apple iPhone. It provides significant advantages over past electronic diary solutions based on Palm technology.

Palm-based devices require patients to install, implement, and use a modem interface in their home on a daily basis to transfer the data from the device to a central data repository. Because patients participating in clinical trials often have significant other challenges, this requirement can be difficult and time-consuming for all clinical trial participants -- the patients, clinicians, and technology vendors.

Alternatively you can download the cab file to your desktop and transfer it to your device via activesync. Once the cab file has been copied to you device, navigate to it using file explorer (on the device) and click on the cab file to launch the installer.

Capture & Convert Any Web Video & Audio with Applian Technologies

February 8, 2009 9:26 PM | Gadgets | Smartphone | Software | Comments (0)

I love to browse the Internet looking for new gadgets and services that I'm not aware of. Did you know you can capture and convert any web video, streaming audio, song or radio program with software available online?  You can with a software package sold by Applian Technologies called Replay Capture Suite. See the video to the right of how it's done.  If you have a smartphone, you can then upload the videos or MP3's to it.

The software allows you to capture videos and music from sites like DailyMotion, Deezer, Hulu, Imeem, Last.fm, MySpace, Pandora, Tv.Yahoo, and YouTube.  That's pretty slick!

Now I don't know the legality behind this but I assume if you merely capture a video or audio to listen at your leisure on your iPod, iPhone or desktop PC, it's should be ok.
