Sony Ericsson Announces the Vivaz Pro with QWERTY Keyboard

Sony Ericsson announced the Vivaz pro, which features a QWERTY keyboard to the touch screen offering, delivering a user experience optimised for messaging and entertainment. The full QWERTY keyboard allows consumers to communicate quickly and efficiently via email, SMS or social networking updates.

Just like flagship phone Sony Ericsson Vivaz, announced in January, Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro allows consumers to produce and broadcast their best experiences in HD video. The open platform also allows users to personalise their entertainment experience by downloading great applications through PlayNow and the Symbian Developer Community.

Sony Ericsson announced that the Vivaz will be available in Q1 2010.  The Sony Ericsson Vivaz features high quality HD video allowing consumers to produce and broadcast their best experiences with the latest video capture and sharing features. The Vivaz features:

Sony Ericsson has announced the 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest for software developers.

Mavericks is a world-renowned big wave break located one-half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California. Enter the quick-start Mavericks part of the challenge and you could win a seat in the lead boat – the best and most exciting way to watch the action.

Sony Ericsson asked Digital Dandelion to build an application around the event. In just a few days it was ready, bringing together real time information, weather, twitter feeds and more. Sony Ericsson is challenging developers to hack on, tear apart, and otherwise improve the sample Mavericks app before the surfing starts.

The competition takes place at 24 hour’s notice and only Mother Nature knows when the wave will come.

Yesterday at the Web 2.0 EXPO in New York, Sony Ericsson announced the Sony Ericsson WebSDK. It is an open source tool created in collaboration with the PhoneGap open source community. The SDK makes it possible for web and mobile developers to create mobile apps using HTML, CSS and JavaScript programming. A bridge component allows JavaScript to access platform features and data such as accelerometer, GPS, Camera and contacts.

The WebSDK enables developers to produce applications which work consistently independent of the underlying platform. It initially supports Android (e.g. XPERIA X10) and Symbian (e.g. Satio) platforms.

Comverse today announced that it is working with mobile handset manufacturer Sony Ericsson to provide visual voicemail on its handsets for residential and business users.

Visual voicemail’s global popularity is growing because it enhances the traditional voicemail experience. All voicemail messages are displayed in an in-box, whose email-like interface provides such key information as date, time, length of message, caller number and identity, when available. Users can scan the messages, click to hear new and previously heard messages in any order, and then reply, forward, or save messages.

Telecom operators of all sizes have launched visual voicemail to meet the fast-paced needs of their users, and Comverse is working hard with operators, handset vendors and the standards bodies to bring the best visual voicemail to market.
