Cincinnati Bell Becomes First U.S. Carrier to Offer Sony Xperia ZL Smartphone

Cincinnati Bell, the region’s leading provider of communications services for homes and businesses, today announced it will begin selling the new Sony Xperia ZL, a premium smartphone with a razor-sharp 5-inch high-definition Reality Display. The Xperia ZL from Sony will be available from Cincinnati Bell online and in stores by May 1 for $249.99 after mail-in rebate with a two-year equipment agreement.

Jelly Bean Update Now Available for Sony Xperia TL

The latest version of Android software, Jelly Bean makes your smartphone easier to use through several enhancements, including changes to the notification display that group updates from the same application together, and allow you to expand or collapse notifications. Customers will also be able to view the full text of an SMS message and the full photo of a MMS in the notification window.  Additionally, event notifications display more of the event description to let you quickly see relevant details without having to open the app, and you can even snooze or dismiss an individual event from within the notification.

To help customers better manage their data consumption, the Jelly Bean update adds a data usage calculator that allows you to set a limit on your data usage each month.

 

 

Sony Software Upgrades - Jelly Bean Android 4.1 for 2012 Xperia Smartphones

Sony Mobile Communications has announced the latest in our Android 4.1 rollout scheduling.

First up, the upgrade plans* for Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V are progressing as planned – these smartphones will start to receive Jelly Bean during February and March.

Next up, Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go will be upgraded from the end of March. Then Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will follow in the subsequent weeks.

We’re particularly excited about the Sony Xperia Jelly Bean features and functionality – we look forward to bringing you more information on this in the New Year.

The decision has been taken not to upgrade Xperia U, Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, and Xperia sola beyond Android 4.0.

Brightstar Brings Xperia Smartphones from Sony to the U.S.

Brightstar Corp., the world’s largest specialized wireless distributor and a global leader in services and solutions for the wireless industry announced today they will bring the newest Xperia smartphones from Sony to the U.S. market. Brightstar’s ability to deliver to national and regional operators will ensure devices such as the highly anticipated Xperia NXT series including the Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U, will become available to consumers across the country in urban or rural markets.

Sony Mobile Announces the Android-Powered Xperia Sola Smartphone

Sony Mobile Communications today announced Xperia sola* as the latest addition to its portfolio of Android powered Xperia smartphones. Complete with Sony technology, premium entertainment and innovative floating touch navigation, the NFC enabled Xperia sola comes equipped with Xperia SmartTags, allowing consumers to change their smartphone’s settings and applications to fit their lifestyle in an instant. Sony Ericcson has announced the update of their entire 2011 Xperia portfolio* to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) as part of their next software upgrade. Sony Ericcson developers are now busy merging the current Xperia software with the new features in Android 4.0.  

The first 2011 Xperia smartphones will be upgraded to Android 4.0 starting from end March/early April 2012. The first smartphones to get the upgrade are Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. Soon after, starting from end April/early May, Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will get their upgrades.

Sony Ericsson Sync Service Being Phased Out

Sony Ericsson announced they are phasing out the Sony Ericsson Sync service since it was meant for old generation phones. As an alternative to Sony Ericsson Sync service, they are recommending using the Google Sync service for a more integrated experience in line with the favorite range of Google Mobile Services like Google Voice Search, Google Maps and YouTube. Other alternatives are Plaxo and UNYK. If you're already using other sync services, you can of course continue to use them instead.
 

 

Sony Ericsson and Ingram Micro Expand Distribution of Unlocked Phones in the U.S.

Sony Ericsson has signed an agreement with Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest technology distributor and supply-chain services provider, to distribute its unlocked phones in the U.S. The agreement includes several of Sony Ericsson's Xperia smartphones, including the newly released Xperia arc S.  All products will be made available through Ingram Micro starting later this month. Globally, Ingram Micro distributes millions of mobile solutions to their reseller partners, including many e-tailers and retailers such as Amazon.com, Best Buy, Buy.com and Newegg.com.

"By teaming with Ingram Micro, we're expanding our channel reach through their robust distribution program and we're excited to forge new relationships with retailers and customers," says Peter Farmer, Head of Marketing for North America, Sony Ericsson.
